May is skin cancer awareness month. Every year 5 million cases are diagnosed. Skin cancer is America’s most common cancer. Here at Aesthetic Surgery Associates, we feel it is important to have regular skin checks to help prevent or catch early detection of skin cancer.

We would love to care for your skin!

Everyone knows about melanoma but there are two other very common types of skin cancer more common than melanoma. The first is basal cell carcinoma, which is the most common form of skin cancer. Around 3.6 million BCC are diagnosed yearly in the U.S. The next is squamous cell carcinoma, which is the second most common form of skin cancer.

Melanoma however is a more severe form of skin cancer. It may arise from a changing pre-cancerous mole or start with a new lesion. A large portion of melanomas can be contributed to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. We recommend regular use of SPF to protect against skin cancer. We also offer a wide array of sunscreens for all skin types right here in our office!

It is important to check your skin often and come in for regular skin checks with your skincare professional. If there is ever a new lesion of concern, we would be happy to address it.
